17 January: Formula 1 Testing - Jerez - Day 6 - Valencia - Day 1

Testing resumed at Jerez today with McLaren and Toyota at the track. The Williams team was also present conducting some installation laps in preparation for testing tomorrow.

Pedro de la Rosa in the McLaren MP4-20 set the fastest time of the day ahead of Jarno Trulli and Garry Paffett.

de la Rosa's time was a 1:18.850.
de la Rosa also covered the most number of laps with 94 laps.

Ralf Schumacher suffered an engine failure limiting his running time.

Running only started mid-morning as the track was damp. Weather conditions were overcast in the morning becoming sunny in the afternoon. Air temperature reached 17 degrees while track temperatures reached 26 degrees.

Testing continue tomorrow with Williams and Honda joining the test.

At Valencia, the new BMW Sauber F1 team commenced a 3 day private test session to test their 2006 contender, the F1.06. Both Nick Heidfeld and Jacques Villeneuve took turns with Heidfeld setting the fastest time of the day with a 1:13.430.

Correction: Only Nick Heidfeld drove the F1.06. Jacques Villeneuve is scheduled to drive the new car on Thursday. Villeneuve is testing with the interim Sauber C24B V8

Testing continues tomorrow.
