Prizes and rules

Prizes:

While the aim of this competition is to challenge your prediction skills and see how accurately you can predict the outcome of each race of the 2021 Formula 1 season, we are providing prizes for the top 3 scorers of the competition.

Entering the competition is free but we would appreciate it if you consider NewsOnF1 when looking for Formula 1 Tours, Tickets, Merchandise or Books. You can check out our Shopping Page. This ensures that we keep the competition going and makes our sponsors happy!

In 2021 we will be awarding the following prizes:

A Grand Prize of $300 (Gift Certificate from NewsOnF1 Online Store) to the overall winner of the competition

A Second Prize of $100 (Gift Certificate from NewsOnF1 Online Store) to the second placed player in the competition overall.

A Third Prize of $75 (Gift Certificate from NewsOnF1 Online Store) to the third placed player in the competition overall.

Rules and Scoring:

Submitting a pick :

A player can submit a pick for any race any time as long as the pick is submitted prior to the start of Saturday practice. No picks will be accepted if sent after the deadline has closed. 

In order to submit your picks, you must first register. Once registered, you can log into the system and submit your picks. If you have any difficulties using that page then you can you can email your picks to [email protected]. You must enter in the email exactly the same details required as on the web page (i.e. Top 10 finishers plus Pole in addition to your player id and registered email address.

Picks may be carried over for any number of races.

If you fail to send in a pick for a race, or if your pick arrives too late to be counted, your pick for the previous race will be used again, your pick will be carried for every race until you put in another pick (e.g., if you fail to enter a pick for race #3, race #2's pick will be used for race#3 and all the subsequent races you fail to send in a pick for).

If a driver you pick is replaced by the team temporarily due to injury or sickness, your score will be based on the result of the replacement driver. If the replacement is permanent, then you must change your picks.

The top 5 positions in Qualifying are determined from the official grid line-up by the FIA taking into account any penalties applied. As an example, if Max Chilton sets the fastest time in Qualifying but is penalised 10 places due to an engine failure in practice he will not be considered the Pole setter and those picking him will score zero for that pick. The 2nd fastest car in Qualifying (which will start from Pole in this case assuming this car is not penalised) will be considered the Pole setter in the competition.

Scoring :

You score points for each race based on how well your picks match the actual race results. If a race result is not confirmed by the FIA due to a protest or infringement. The scoring for that race will be delayed until a result is confirmed by the FIA.

For each driver that you picked, you score points based on where the driver finished with bonus points if you predicted the exact position. The points are awarded as follows :

2 bonus points will be awarded if you pick the exact position. If you don't pick the exact finishing position but they still finish in the top 10 then you will score the normal awarded points if the actual position is lower than the predicted position otherwise points for the predicted position will be used.

Please note that scoring for the final race of the season will be the same as all the others (i.e. we won't be awarding double points)

A Tie:
If two or more players top score in a round, the player who submitted their final picks the earliest for the round is declared the winner. Players rolling their picks from previous rounds will only be considered for a prize if all the top scorers have rolled their picks. In that case the winner is the player who submitted picks for the nearest round to the round played and if there are two or more players in that situation, then the earliest final pick for that round wins.

For Pole position, if the driver you pick is among the top 5 fastest drivers in qualifying, you'll score :

Additional bonus points are awarded if your pick contains 6 or more drivers who actually finish in the top 10 (regardless of the order) as follows:

6 drivers in the top 10 : 2 bonus points
7 drivers in the top 10 : 4 bonus points
8 drivers in the top 10 : 6 bonus points
9 drivers in the top 10 : 10 bonus points
10 drivers in the top 10 : 16 bonus points

The maximum points per race is 97. That is 
12+11+10+9+8+7+6+5+4+3 for the top 10 in exactly the order they finished + 
6 for Pole + 
16 for having all 10 drivers picked in the top 10
