24 January: Formula 1 Testing - Barcelona - Day 2, Mugello

Testing continued today at Barcelona with Ferrari and Red Bull joining McLaren and BMW Sauber.

Ferrari test driver Marc Gene driving the F2004 V8 set the fastest time of the day ahead of Jacques Villeneuve in the BMW Sauber F1.06 and Juan Pablo Montoya in the McLaren MP4-21.

Gene's time was a 1:16.583.
Jacques Villeneuve covered the most number of laps with 92.

 

Juan Pablo Montoya has his first drive in the new McLaren. He covered 87 laps and set the 3rd fastest time of the day.

McLaren's test driver Gary Paffett crashed around 2 PM damaging the interim car but he was OK.
Nick Heidfeld driving the interim Sauber C24B had limited running due to gear selection problem.

Weather conditions were sunny but cold with air temperature reaching 14 degrees and track temperature reaching 15 degrees.

Testing continues tomorrow with Honda launching their new car while Renault, Toyota and Toro Rosso join the test.

At Mugello, Ferrari tested their new car (the 248 F1) with Michael Schumacher on duty. Michael completed 44 laps setting a best time of 1:21.904.

Weather conditions were very cold with air temperature reaching 0 degrees and track temperature reaching 3 degrees.

Due to the low temperatures, the team has decided to move the 248 F1 to Barcelona from Thursday.
