9 February: Testing Report - Jerez - Day Two Location: Circuito de Jerez, Spain The primary focus of todays programme was tyre development work as the team will select which tyre to use at next months Australian Grand Prix by the end of his week. Consequently both Juan Pablo and Pedro completed three long runs each today. Today also marked Juan Pablos first test with the West McLaren Mercedes race team personnel who will be responsible for his race car over grands prix weekends. Juan Pablos MP4-20 was running with the new roll hoop mid wing as first seen yesterday. With the changes to the FIA regulations for 2005 resulting in approximately one third of downforce lost, a number of the teams have introduced new aero packages, such as the roll hoop mid wing on the MP4-20, to try to claw back some of the lost downforce. Similar to yesterday, todays running was affected by a number of red flag incidents and a damaged radiator on Pedros car meant that the Spaniard lost an hour and a halfs running time in the afternoon. Juan Pablo was the fastest driver of the day completing 102 laps with a best lap time of 1m16.803s. Pedro was 10th fastest completing 98 laps and his fastest time was a 1m17.953s lap. Juan Pablo Montoya We have been experiencing understeer today, but we are aware of this problem and are confident it will be solved by the end of the week. I have completed several long scheduled runs today and have also been working with members of the race team, building up a good rapport with them ahead of the Australian Grand Prix. Pedro de la Rosa Today we have been focusing on long runs, working on reliability and tyre testing for Michelin, particularly concentrating on tyre performance over a simulated final 50km of a grand prix. The red flags have affected the running today and in addition, this afternoon we had a slight problem with the radiator on my car which prevented me from running for 90 minutes. I have however still completed 98 laps. Juan Pablo will be joined by Kimi at the circuit tomorrow for day three of the four day testing programme.
